What is Humanin?
Humanin is a 24-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene, one of the first mitochondrial-derived peptides identified. It is studied for cytoprotective signalling through the gp130 receptor complex and as a member of a peptide class that includes MOTS-c.
