What is SNAP-8, and what is it studied for?
SNAP-8 is acetyl octapeptide-3, the eight-residue peptide Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2, formula C41H70N16O16S, mass 1075.2, CAS 868844-74-0, an elongation of the hexapeptide argireline designed to mimic the N-terminal region of the SNARE protein SNAP-25. It is studied in cell and biochemical models of SNARE complex assembly, almost entirely in a cosmetic-ingredient context. The material is for in-vitro research only.
What is the structure of SNAP-8?
Eight residues, N-acetylated and C-amidated, with two glutamates, two arginines and a methionine. The identifiers on file were corrected on 2 October 2026: PubChem holds two records under the ingredient name, and the one whose mass matches the certificate, 1075.2, is CID 76283482. The methionine is the oxidation-prone site.

How is SNAP-8 thought to work?
Reported to compete with SNAP-25 for a position in the SNARE complex, reducing the efficiency of vesicle fusion in the cell models used by its developers. A direct receptor is not involved; the proposed mechanism is protein-protein interference, demonstrated in vitro.
Which research areas use SNAP-8?
| Area | Typical models and endpoints |
|---|---|
| SNARE complex assembly | Biochemical and cell-based assays of SNAP-25, syntaxin and synaptobrevin association. |
| Vesicle fusion models | Neurotransmitter-release readouts in cultured cells. |
| Peptide design | Hexapeptide to octapeptide elongation as a case study in affinity. |
| Cosmetic-ingredient chemistry | Topical formulation stability, which is where most of the published data sits. |
What does the published literature show?
The peptide was developed by Lipotec as a cosmetic ingredient and most of its literature is formulation and in-vitro mechanism work from that source; Blanes-Mira and colleagues described the parent hexapeptide's SNARE interaction in 2002. There is no pharmaceutical programme; research use is in-vitro only.
How is SNAP-8 handled in the laboratory?
Dissolves in water. Methionine: protect from light and air, minimise headspace. Store lyophilized at minus 20 °C; aliquot and freeze. The concentration table covers volumes and syringe units; the storage guide covers stability by compound class.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot SN810-0803 tested at 99.75% purity by RP-HPLC (214 nm), identity confirmed by LC-MS/MS, endotoxin <0.05 EU/mL. The certificate is in the COA library and the lot number on the vial matches it. Sold as 10 mg per vial at $55, for laboratory research only.
Certificate history for SNAP-8
Every certificate the library holds for this compound, newest first. A replaced lot stays listed so the history can be read; the certificate dataset reads all 114 together.

Frequently asked questions
What is argireline?
Acetyl hexapeptide-3, the six-residue parent of SNAP-8 with the same acetyl and amide caps. SNAP-8 adds two residues at the N-terminus.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot SN810-0803: identity by LC-MS/MS at 1075.2, purity 99.75% by RP-HPLC at 214 nm, content 10.47 mg, endotoxin below 0.05 EU/mL. Issued 17 August 2026.
Why were the identifiers corrected?
Because the record previously on file carried the formula of a different PubChem entry under the same ingredient name, with a mass two daltons off the certificate. The entry whose mass matches is now recorded.
