What is epithalon, and what is it studied for?
Epithalon, also written epitalon, is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, formula C14H22N4O9, mass 390.35, the synthetic counterpart of the pineal preparation epithalamin from the St Petersburg bioregulator programme. It is studied in cultured human cells for telomerase expression and in rodents for pineal and endocrine measures, almost entirely by the group that designed it. No human trial is registered.
What is the structure of Epithalon?
Four residues with free termini and no modifications, two acidic side chains and a C-terminal glycine, giving a net negative charge at neutral pH and immediate water solubility. It shares the Glu-Asp pair with pinealon but is a different, longer molecule with a different mass; the certificate's identity line distinguishes the two.

How is Epithalon thought to work?
The designers propose a direct interaction with DNA that alters gene expression, the same model proposed for the rest of the series and not independently established. The most cited specific finding is induction of telomerase activity and telomere elongation in cultured human somatic cells, reported by Khavinson and colleagues in 2003.
Which research areas use Epithalon?
| Area | Typical models and endpoints |
|---|---|
| Telomerase expression | Human fibroblast cultures with telomerase activity and telomere-length readouts. |
| Pineal and circadian signalling | Rodent melatonin and pineal-function studies from the bioregulator programme. |
| Bioregulator comparisons | Side-by-side work with pinealon and the thymic short peptides. |
| Analytical chemistry | A tetrapeptide standard for early-eluting HPLC and MS method work. |
What does the published literature show?
Khavinson, Bondarev and Butyugov reported telomerase induction in human somatic cells in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine in 2003; Anisimov and Khavinson's 2010 Biogerontology review summarises the rodent work. The literature is from one laboratory group with sparse independent replication, and no clinical study is registered. The material here is for in-vitro and preclinical research only.
How is Epithalon handled in the laboratory?
Dissolves instantly in water or buffer. No oxidation-prone residues; aspartate can isomerise slowly at acidic pH, so hold stocks near neutral. Store lyophilized at minus 20 °C; aliquot solutions and freeze. The concentration table covers volumes and syringe units; the storage guide covers stability by compound class.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot EPIT10-0803 tested at 99.68% purity by RP-HPLC (214 nm), identity confirmed by LC-MS/MS, endotoxin <0.05 EU/mL. The certificate is in the COA library and the lot number on the vial matches it. Sold as 10 mg per vial at $60, for laboratory research only.

Frequently asked questions
Is epithalon the same as epithalamin?
No. Epithalamin is a pineal-gland extract; epithalon is the synthetic tetrapeptide designed to represent it. Only the tetrapeptide has a defined formula and mass.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot EPIT10-0803: identity by LC-MS/MS at 390.35, purity 99.68% by RP-HPLC at 214 nm, content 10.63 mg, endotoxin below 0.05 EU/mL. Issued 17 August 2026.
How does it differ from pinealon?
Pinealon is Glu-Asp-Arg, three residues, mass 418.4. Epithalon is Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, four residues, mass 390.35. The comparison post sets them side by side.
