What is vilon, and what is it studied for?
Vilon is the dipeptide Lys-Glu, formula C11H21N3O5, mass 275.3, the shortest peptide in this catalogue. It was chosen by the St Petersburg bioregulator programme as a synthetic representative of a thymic extract and is studied in cultured lymphoid cells and aged animals for immune measures. It has no identified receptor and no registered human trial.
What is the structure of Vilon?
Two residues, lysine and glutamic acid, joined by a single peptide bond, with free termini. Two amines and two carboxyls make it as polar as a molecule this size can be: it is fully water-soluble and barely retained on a reversed-phase column, eluting at about 1.6 minutes on the certificate method. Its mass, 275.30, is exact for the formula.

How is Vilon thought to work?
As with the other Khavinson peptides, the designers propose a direct interaction with DNA that alters gene expression; no receptor is identified and the model is not independently established. In the reported experiments the readouts are proliferation and marker expression in lymphoid cell cultures and immune indices in aged rodents.
Which research areas use Vilon?
| Area | Typical models and endpoints |
|---|---|
| Lymphoid cell culture | Proliferation and differentiation-marker readouts in thymocyte and lymphocyte cultures. |
| Immune indices in aged animals | Rodent studies from the bioregulator programme. |
| Thymic peptide comparisons | Side-by-side work with thymalin preparations and thymosin alpha-1. |
| Analytical chemistry | A dipeptide reference for solvent-front behaviour and MALDI identity. |
What does the published literature show?
Anisimov and Khavinson's 2010 review and Khavinson and Morozov's 2003 report in Neuroendocrinology Letters place Lys-Glu among the thymic short peptides and summarise cell and animal findings. The literature is from one laboratory group; independent replication at scale is absent, and no clinical study is registered. The material here is for in-vitro and preclinical research only.
How is Vilon handled in the laboratory?
Dissolves instantly in water or buffer. The main degradation route for a glutamyl dipeptide is slow cyclisation to the diketopiperazine, accelerated by heat and pH extremes; keep stocks cold and near neutral. Minimal adsorption to plastic. Store lyophilized at minus 20 °C. The concentration table covers volumes and syringe units; the storage guide covers stability by compound class.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot VILON20-0528 tested at 99.9% purity by RP-HPLC (214 nm), identity confirmed by MALDI-MS, endotoxin <0.05 EU/mL. The certificate is in the COA library and the lot number on the vial matches it. Sold as 20 mg per vial at $60, for laboratory research only.

Frequently asked questions
Is vilon the same as thymalin?
No. Vilon is a synthetic dipeptide. Thymalin is the name of a bovine thymus extract from the same programme, and the catalogue product sold under that name has a certificate mass of 858.8, which is not a dipeptide.
What does the current certificate show?
Lot VILON20-0528: identity by MALDI-MS at 275.3, purity 99.9% by RP-HPLC at 214 nm, content 20.13 mg, endotoxin below 0.05 EU/mL, heavy metals below 0.01 ppm, sterility not detected. Certificate COA4861, issued 17 June 2026.
Can HPLC purity be trusted for a dipeptide?
As one line among six, yes, with the caveat that a peak this close to the solvent front is less well resolved than a longer peptide's. The identity and content lines carry more weight here.
