What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic analogue of ACTH (4-10) extended with a proline-glycine-proline tail that resists enzymatic degradation. It is studied for effects on BDNF and NGF expression, and it carries none of the corticotropic activity of the parent hormone. How is Semax handled and stored?
Sealed vials are stored at -20°C away from light and keep for 24 months. To reconstitute, add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl until clear; never shake. Frequently asked questions
Does Semax have ACTH activity?
No. The 4-10 fragment excludes the region responsible for corticotropic activity, which is what makes it useful for separating the two.
What does the PGP tail do?
Proline-glycine-proline resists peptidase cleavage, extending the fragment's half-life relative to the unmodified 4-10 sequence.
Is N-acetyl Semax amidate the same thing?
No. It is the same heptapeptide with both ends capped: an acetyl group on the N-terminus and an amide in place of the C-terminal acid. That moves the mass from 813.9 to 855.0 and removes a charge at each end. We list it separately as a metered research solution, and the comparison post works through what each modification changes.
